A GREAT COMMANDER.

A .stream of people at the Guards’ Chapel passed Lord Ypres’ coffin, and was continuous until 4 o’clock, when the procession was commenced, headed by tlie Lifeguards and Hussars in full dress uniform. A detachment from five guards regiments carried the coffin into the Abbey, where there was an impressive service. Field-Alarsha 1 Haig represented the King, and Mr. Stanley Baldwin, Earl Balfour and Mr Winston Churchill represented the Cabinet. Every nation of tlie Allies was represented. Those present included Sir J. L. Baird, who went to France with the Earl of Ypres soon after war broke out, and was with him in tlie Mons retreat.
From tlie Abbey the calvacade slowly passed Victoria Station through a dense crowd of bareheaded onlookers, fifteen to twenty deep, many wearing service medals. As the bent figure of Marshal Jofl're was seen on the righthand of the gun carriage, the crowd whispered “Joffre.”A. and N.Z. Assn.
