BATTLESHIP’S DANGER.
BETWEEN GIANT BREAKERS. £20,000 WORTH OF DAMAGE. HONOLULU, May 8. The American warship Maryland narrowly' escaped capsizing during yesterday’s, manoeuvres. She was caught broadside on between giant breakers and heeled over to an angle of 30 degrees. Water poured in the portholes, causing damage estimated at £20,000 The Maryland was launched in M arch, 1920. She has a normal displacement of 32,600 tons, carries a complement of 1480 men and has eight 16in. guns. Her, length overall is 624 ft., or 230 ft. 'ess than H.M.S. Hood.
