TOWN BOARD. At the. monthly meeting' of.the’ -Ncrmanby Town'.Board there wereent; . Commissioners. ,0. J. Preston (chairman), P- Leydori, T. Lloyd, C. Cb-ad and A, Hills. . . Mr.. Hurliman. wrote drawing the board’s attention to the. drain at the back..6f liis property.—'This was left .in the, hands of the works committee with power to act. ■ ■ • - < Mr.- 0. Good son wrote about gor.se growing: on O'hanga.i. Road, and asked that. it be eradicated. —The clerk - reported that the occupier of the land who -was responsible for the grubbing of the gonse. complained of had already made a start to> clear the same. Mrs. H. Walden asked for the free use of-the To wn Hall l , for a , dance to be held in .aid of the funds,of the .'St., Vincent de Paul’s Society.—lt was resolved that the. hall be. let at the charge of 5s subject to the dance not clashing .with other hall arrangenkents. Mr. A.'. Powell vnote .• asking the board if. it. would reconsider its decision not to allow anyone under, the age. of . 18 years in the billiard room. —After consideration the. board decided not to make any alteration in its resolution.
Mr. J. K; Coi'rigaji, M.P., wrote enclosing letters from the Minister of Finance and the, Minister of Public Works. in> reference to the proposed loan which the hoard desires to raise for main road reconstruction. Both Ministers wrote to the sianie effect —: viz., that they had cominfuhicatecl with the' State Advances superintendent, who regretted that at present it was nuite impossible to entertain’ this application, as the department’s resources are,fully taxed, by demands by settlers throughout the Dominion. Mr. : A. E. Linn, secretary of the Social Oluii, wrote asking for a rednotipii in the ball charges for dances to be: .held during the winter months, the proceeds of which would be used in purchasing crockery for -the Town Hall.—lt was. decided that no alteration be made in the present charges, but a, resolution was passed that the board would subsidise £ for £ any money handed to l the clerk for the purpose of purchasing crockery. The secretary of the South Taranaki Electric Power Board wrote enclosing a. copy of a letter received froth! the Public! Worksi Department announcing the constitution of the district . and outer area ; . and suggesting that Wednesday, June .24, be the date on which the election for the menibeis of the power hoard he hold. —The clerk was instructed to reply That ,a*s, far as the town-board was concerned June 24 would be a! suitable date. Accounts) to the amount of' £126 16s 3d were passed for payment.
