MADISON SQUARE GARDEN
BOOMS FOR OFFICES. NEW YORK, May 6. The famous Madison Square Garden, which has been the scene of sporting events of every description for 35 years, saw its farewell bout to-day, when Sycl Terris fought Johnny Dundee, former featherweight champion, before 13,000 spectators. Terris was given the decision after 12 rounds. The Madison Square Garden is to be replaced by an office building. Mr Tex Rickard, the boxing promoter, is planning to build a new stadium on another site in New York. Architecturally notable not only for its great .size but also for its successfu 1 artistic treatment,. Madison Square Garden was completed in 1890. It combines an amphitheatre 300 ft long and 200 ft wide, a theatre, a concert hall, a. dining hall, and a roof garden. A groat square tower rises from the south side to a height of 332 ft. It reproduces the famous Girakla of the cathedral at Seville, Spain, on a .somewhat reduced sca'e. Madison Square Garden was. the scene of the shooting in 1906 of Standford White, architect of the building, hv Harry K. Thaw.
