AN OCTOGENARIAN’S DEATH. '(by TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) * NEW PLYMOUTH, May 25. William Gillbanks, 80 years, .living at Ngamotu collapsed suddenly this morning. Gillbanks rose as usual but fell to the floor of his room and died immediately. ■ It is understood he had been receiving medical attention lately and an inquest is not necessary.
WAITARA SETTLER DROWNED
NEW PLYMOUTH, May 25
A Purangi settler named Oar], Moisin is believed to have been drowned in the Waitara River while hooking logs which were being brought down by the flood waters. Moisin was a married man with nine children. Search was carried on without success and it is thought tlie body was carried down the river, probably to the sea. A JOCKEY INJURED. TAUMARUNUI, May 25. A car returning from the Taumarunui races collided with a cart in the main street? this evening. The Par capsized and was damaged. “Skipper” Ryan, the well-known jockey, sustained injuries to his head, necessitating stitching. SETTLER. DROWN ED. OAMARU, May 25. Moira Cant, aged about seventeen years, daughter of David Cant, farmer, of Tapui, nineteen miles- from Oamaru, was thrown from a .horse when returning from school to-day and was killed.
