EIRE B RIG A DESMEN IN TROUBLE

(BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, May 25. A recent fire in Vivian street, Wellington, had a rather unexpected sequel in the arrest, of two fire brigadesmeu for theft. On April .21 a fire broke out' in the premises of Edward George MacDonald, upholsterer, 186 Vivian street. After the outbreak the disappearance of a quantity of moqiiette, satin and ticking, valued at approximately £l4, could not be accounted for, and the matter was placed in the hands of the police. Inquiries were made by Detectives Jarrold and McLennan, and. on Saturday Bernard Dynan, aged 32, and Alex. Milne, aged 24, members of the Central Fire Brigade, were arrested in connection with the offence. They will lie. charged with theft on Monday. They were charged fit' the court today with theft of goods valued at £1 •15s from the premises of Edward McDonald during the recent fire. They pleaded guilty, and were remanded for sentence pending the probation officer’s report. After the fire the accused were left in charge of the premises. It was subsequently found that goods valued at £l3 16s were missing; but the goods traced to their possession were valued at £1 15s.

Counsel for the. accused said that the men saw some material lying on tlie floor wet and damaged, and they took it to use as covering for shelves in their room at the fire station. It was a case of sudden temptation. There was no secrecv about the affair.
