FOOTBALLERS’ R E-UN JON
A very pleasant function in the form of a smoke concert was held in the Town Hall 011 Wednesday, being a reunion of past footballers. A large attendance representating a wide district was presided over by Air. F. Julian. Apologies for inability to attend were received from Messrs. J. McLeod, D. Malone and A. 1.. Humphries. After the royal toast had been duly honoured, Air.' .Julian referred to tne loss sustained by the Dominion and Empire bv the death of Air. AY. F. Alassey, the gathering standing in silence as a token of respect. The following toast list was duly honoured : “Taranaki Rugby Union,” proposed bv Air. Joe Alartin, responded to by Air. Fred Guy; “Referees Association,” Mr. F. Mason, responded to by Mr. A. F. Neilson; “Dairy Industry,” Air. A Richards, responded to bv Air. F. Rolands; “The Ladies,” Air. BriffauLt, responded to bv Air. C. 8. Crowley; “All Blacks,” Mr. Birchall, responded to by Messrs. St. George and T. Kiley; “Kindred Sports,” Air. Daniells, responded to by Air. F. Burgess; “Local bodies,” Air. John Hickey, responded to by Air. J. Young; “Public Works Department,” chairman, responded to by Messrs. BriffauLt and Bennie; “The Visitors,” Air. J. Hickey, responded td Ijy ALessrs. A. Guy and i. Humphries; “The Press,’’ Air. Alason, responded to by Air. A. Brown; “Opunake Football Club,” Air. Bayiis, responded to by Air. P. Brooker. Interpersed with the toasts were a number oi musical and elocutionary items, to which, the following contributed: Alessis. A. Bennie, J. Doyle, A. Graham, G. Humphries, J. Alaindonald, J. Hickey, S. C. Carlson, A. E. Brunette, P. Brooker, S. Anderson, and D. Ross, D. Richards presided at the piano. The organisers of the function, Messrs. Jas Hickey and Leo King, must be more than gratified at the successful and enjoyable evening which attended their efforts, and the best thanks of all are due to the committee or ladies under the guidance of Mrs. F. Julian, who so- ably carried out the decorations and setting up of the tables which were very artistically arranged.
