PEDIGREE JERSEYS.

J. S. T. SHORT’S SALE

The sale of Mr J. S. T. Short’s pedigree herd at his farm, . Scott road, brought together buyers from several parts of the North Island to see the nigh grade cattle submitted for him by the Farmers’ Co-operative Organisation yesterday. Despite the number present bidding was not too brisk, and prices realised were not any indication of trie tine worth of the cattle.

Being an unreserved sale, it was not eligible, for the owner to. put in any bid', and as bidding was not brisk lie suggested withdrawing the stock. However, the matter was put to the buyers by the auctioneer, and as there was unanimous acquiescence in this procedure Mr Short had the liberty to put in one bid, and this meant that in,a large number of eases the animals failed to reach his estimate of their value.

Mr C. G. Trotter, the company’s auctioneer, wielded the hammer from the rostrum.

The number of cows submitted was 57. and of these 37 were quitted. The best price was secured for the two-year-old Grand' View Hope, which fell to Mr McCay . for 50 guineas. The heifer Grand' View Carlysian reached 46 guineas,, and went to Mr W. Lambie, Pihama. None of the bulls in the catalogue were sold. Details of sales were as follow :
