CRICKET.

ENGLISH FORM. ABSENCE OF TRUE WICKETS. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT LONDON, May 21. The Morning Post, commenting on a letter by Mr. Bosanqnet arguing that the cause of British cricket deterioration is the failure to provide the younger generation with good pitches, says that even at the leading public schools the practice and games wickets are deplorably bad, while in the myriad matches played on village greens such a thing as a true wicket was virtually unknown. The result is to foster a race of swipers and sliugers. The necessity of true wickets for young learners is recognised in Australia, even in up-country places. There one has the reason why a club player may go straight into a State or test team and make, good in his first representative match.
