KAPONGA TOWN BOARD.

MONTH LA MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Kaponga Town Board was held on Tuesday evening. There were present : Commissioners A.. IT. Bates (chairman). R, A. Law. D. J. Kehely, C. E. Bates. Ri. E. Williams. A. J. Herbert, J. Dawson, A. E. Moss (engineer), and G. P. Cook (clerk). ENG I N EER/K REPORT. The electrical engineer (Mr. A. EMo&s) reported as follows!: .“The niilkimg load is now rapidly falling off, bill it i.s still necessary to run the larger plant. The excavation: for the Hume pipe is being pushed ahead, the: first pipes ‘being due this week. Advantage i.s being taken of the fact that the factory load is finished, before noon to put up some of the guards asked for by the P. and. T, Department. Sundry other improvements to. open lines such as section out-oute have .to he 'attended to at this time. The plants are running very smoothly, and given a. full head of water would give a good service. “It is worth noting that this" monfen the last house in the town area' has been wired, and there is now not, a dwelling worth, doing that has not the electric light. Wo are probably unique in this respect. I propose to, take a, few days off next week; my assistant will be able, to look after the plant. WORKS COMMITTEE.

Op behalf of the works committee the clerk reported as follows :- During the past month the foreman has devoted the whole of his time and that of his assistant to the widening of the roadway into, the cemetery at the inner end to. give vehicles more room for turning, using the spoil to raise the height of the roadway overthe culvert. - Considerable progress has been made, the filling has been done .and several inches of pit metal laid on the track. The metalling of the outer portion of the track has still to be completed and a. considerable amount of clay removed from the lower ©lid to straight-out the banks and to give the turning airea such a fall as will enable the waiter to drain from it The guard fence lias also to he erected between the trackway and Mr. G. Gibsons’ property; and the cemetery proper has .still to 'be cleaned and put in order.

It its recommended when the above work is completed that the foreman proceeds to the cleaning of the watertable in front of Victoria Park. _ and fco the cutting of the hedges hack to the fence line; iq the cleaning of the grass from, off the stock route on the Ka.uipokonui River to. enable the foottraclc to be used. The completion of the footpath on the Upper Ma.naia Road and the erection of a, suitable fence a,t the Ka,upokonui bridge still remains to be carried out. FINANCE. The following financial statement was tabled cohering operations for the month: Receipts: Rates £l6B 19s 4d, licenses os. pound fees 4s, Town Hall £5 os, public library £1 15s, municipal cinema (four screenings) £37 os, instalments on houses £39 Ids, sale of electricity £lsl, sale of horse £SO, sale of motor £2 9s, refund material, supplied £lO. transfer from housing loan account £IOO. electrical extensions loan account £2o0; total £Bl6. 17s lOd. Expenditure: General—Salaries and wages £l2B 2s 7d, administration £to 13s 6d, insurances £l6 19s sd, general £37 4s Id, Town Hall £55, municipal cinema £7 9s 3d, housing account £1 15s, housing loan acconnt £IOO (£357 3s lOd); interest and sinking funds (electric light, loan 15) interest £l3l ss, sinking fund £SO, electric light loan 21 interest £BS 16s, State Advances Department, interest water and dranage and housing £5lO 18s 9d (£747 19s 9d; total £1135 3s. 7d.
