SEQUEL TO MOTOR ACCIDENT. (by TELEGRAPH —PRESS 'SSOHIATION. AUCKLAND, May 20. Further evidence in the motor car accident case which occurred at Ngaruawahia on May 17, 192.4, and by which a widow named Mri Evelyn Grave Stevens was knocked down and fatally injured, was continued, in the Supreme Court to-day. The plaintiff, Mrs Stevens’ father, Henry John Saiiibrey, as executor and trustee of the wii?, claimed £ISOO from Da'id Douglas Wallace Martin, medical practitioner, Ngaruawa'liia, and James Thomas Douce, architect, Cambridge. Hugh Alex Bagley, optician, of Auckland, said that on July 1 30, 1923, lie examined Mrs Stevens’ eyes and found short-sightedness or obstruction of vision. A certain nervous condition of the letina. caused, an abhorrence to bright lights. There was a method to relieve this by means of certain lenses. Confusion of vision would result in a person coming in contac; with a bright light. A person- suffering from photophobia would be nervous. To Mr llogben: If the condition was a very bad one, it would necessitate going to a doctor. He would not say photophobia came suddenly, but gradually. Witness was not prepared to say, however, that if a doctor said photophobia came suddenly as a result of a sudden shock he would be prepared to dispute it., The doctor might be wrong, and withess might be wrong. He was not prepared to say. To His Honour: Deceased told witness that she was unable to bear the strong light. The court adjourned till to-morrow.
