' RECEPTION AND ENTERTAINMENT. A PROGRAMME ARRANGED. The question of preliminary arrange merits in connection witii the reception and entertainment of the uemgates of the N.D.A., who will be in Hawera in July at Winter Show time, was considered, at a meeting ol the joint committee set up i roin meal associations last night in the Roiougii Chambers. The Mayor (Mr. E. A. Pacey) presided, .and there were present: Messrs. O. J. Preston, E, A. Washer, F. W. Sutton, D. J. Goodwin, B C. Bennett, P. Bond, W. Gilbert, 1. Walsh, J. R. Corrigan, J. Thomson, R, Page, W. O’Sullivan, S. C. Tonics, and L. O. Hooker (secretary). After .some short discussion, it was arranged to set up committees to cover all the work necessary and to arrange a programme for the days during which the delegates would be In Hawera. . * T'li© first meeting being on the luesday morning, July 1, it was resolved that a civic reception be given them, the Mayor, councillors, and some of the citizens to be present at their meeting in the Grand Theatre. •As the delegate® would probably be. engaged ail Tuesday, day and evening, it was resolved that they be taken to the rep. football match, Taranaki v. Wellington, on Wednesday afternoon, entertained at a social in the evening in the West Coast- Refrigerating Co. s room, a trip to the mountain on Thursday, and if they wished, to the pictures in the evening. Any that -stayed till Friday could be taken for a drive round the district. / The Automobile Association ha* taken, over.the question of arranging all conveyances roeju ire d. ,T 'he Women , s N a tio u a-1 Reserve will also as-ist- in every way possible. Committees were set up as follow: —Finance and canvassing: Messrs*. Goodwin and Sutton (north of High Street), Dixoil and Fletcher (south of High. Street) ; Meosrs. Corrigan, Preston and Murdoch (factories). Social committee: Tire Mayor, Messrs. P. Bond ' (convenor), J. Ri. Corrigan, E. A. Washer, S. C. Tonics, T. A. Winks, E. Dixon, W. Gilbert, and F. GiHanders, Music programme : Messrs. Sutton and Page. Mountain trip: . Messrs. Walk ley (convenor), O 1 ’Callaghan and E. C. Tonics. The question of decorating, and lighting the town and business premises was left to the Retailers’ Association and a committee was set up comprising Messrs. B. O. Bennett (convenor), W. Gilbert and J, M. Townsend, Bullock, Lester, Stracfjan and Eibbett, with power to add, to arrange a scheme of arches and greenery. The business people are to be asked to light up their premises specially during show week. The municipal band and pipe band will be also asked to help in the entertainment programme. In view of the fact, that the mountain trip would be probably the largest ever undertaken, it was resolved to write to the Publicity 'Department asking it to send its photographer to take films and pictures. The meeting, was a very good one and much, enthusiasm was shown by all members of committees. ft was recognised that the visit of so marly leading men in the dairy world to Hawera district will be the biggest of its kind that' lias ever taken place in the historv of Hawera, and that it was up to everyone in town and coon toy to assist in. every way possible. .
