In moving a cordial vote of appreciation of* the worn of the secretary at the conference of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union yesterday, the president'(Mr Dunn) said he had done the work admirably, and was willing to take it up again. He congratulated Mr Cameron in becoming a partner in the 'firm of Burdekin and Walkley, a good firm of high standing in the town.
Mr. George Witty, who has represented the Ricarton electorate in the House, since December, has announced that he will, hot be a candidate for the seat at the next election.
A press message from Christchurch reports the .death of Mr. Henry Murray, aged 70. Mr. Murray was for many years assistant- town- clerk at Christchurch and citv valuer.
It was reported by the director of the Technical High School to the meeting of the board last night that two of the pupils had -received appointments m the public service. 0. Alien,, of the engineering cla-ss, had been appointed a draughtsman’s cadet, and in.' Salton, of the literary class, had been given a literary cadetship. At the meeting of the Operatic Society last night the opportunity was taken by the president (Mr. H. L. Spraht) to hid farewell to' Mr. Kineton P'arkes, who has been a leading member of the .society isince its inception, and whose help will be much misised. Good wishes were expressed for his future. Mr. Parkes leaves for England at. an early date-. Mr. H. F. Wooffindin, who has been loqal agent and assistant auctioneer for the New. Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., for Ha were district for some time, has resigned his position and will be leaving Ha* wera shortly, having accepted a. position with a leading firm of stock and station agents) in South Wairarapa■While here Mr. Wooffindin has made many friends in business and social circles, all of whom, while regretting his departure, will wish. him. good fortune in his new sphere of work. The following telegram has been received from Mm. Massey by the president of the Egmont Racing Club, in reply to a motion of sympathy by the club on the death of Mr. Massey: “ Will youi please accept, a.nd' convey to the committee and member® of your club the grateful thank® of myself and family for yoiv.r kind telegram, of sympathy a.nd condolence with us in our bereavement. At the meeting of the South Taranaki Executive of the New Zea'and Farmers’ Union kindly reference was made to the serious illness of Mr Robert Lambie, of Pihama, one of the oldest and most tried and trusted members of the executive. Mr Dunn said Mr Lambie carried on as long as he was able. He had always been held in the highest respect. On his motion a vote of sincere sympathy was carried with Mr. Lambie in his serious' illness, and the hope was expressed that he would soon be restored to heaHh. Mr John Forbes, in supporting the motion, said a better type of man never lived. All sincerely regretted his illness. V
