LOCAL OPTION POLLS. BY ‘ CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION-COPYRIGHT. Received May 18, 9.30 a.m. BRISBANE/ May 18. The local option poll in Towoomba and East Towoomba electorates resulted in 4251 for and 6044 against prohibition. In both electorates the continuance vote showed an increase over last poll.
PLAGUE OF MICE. BRISBANE, May 18. A plague of mice is causing serious damage in the wheat areas. Hosts of the rodents are attacking both growing and ,stored grain. GERMAN GLASS. BRISBANE, May 18. . A deputation of returned soldiers and other kindred bodies protested to Archbishop Sliarpe against placing German stained glass in the memorial church at Hamilton. The Archbishop promised to procure English glass instead of German for the five windows to which objection rvas taken.
