Prince George, the King s fourth son, left England early this month to join the China, Squadron.
The Speaker of the Legislative Council (Sir Walter Carncross) entered Parliament three years heloie the late Mr Massey, and has been a member of the two branches of the Legislature for 35 years. The Rev. C. H. Isaacson and Mrs. Isaacson have arrived at Eltham. The new vicar of Alt Saints commenced bis duties yesterday. . .mi lootbnlier and athlete, in the person of Mr R. 1 McGregor,, who has been transferred to the Bank of New Zealand at Auckland, left this morning. Mr. McGregor, who lias won a large number of friends during the time he has been in this town, was given a farewell evening on Saturday, when about 50 members of the Haw era and Athletic football clubs, and members of the Hawera. Amateur Athletic Club and friends attended. There were numerous speakers, all of whom emphasised the popularity of the guest, and the esteem in which he was held, and during the function Mr McGregor was presented with a travelling bag. _ r The death has taken place at Vestport of Mrs. Catherine Hears,' who is stated to be the fourth white woman to arrive on Donoghue’s goldfield soutft of Ross. ' The deceased, who had reached the age of 90 years, was a native of County Clare, Ireland. She leaves three sons and one daughter. At the ordinary meeting of the Stratford County Council, a vote of sympathy with Mrs Massey was passed. The chairman (Mr E. Walter) paid a high tribute to the great services of the late Prime Minister, and intimated that he had forwarded a wreath on behalf of the council.
Mr. Robert Williamson, manager for J. C. Williamson, Ltd., was in Hawera to-day making preliminary arrangements for the appearance of the celebrated stage and screen actor, Thurston Hall, in “So This is London,” at the Opera House on Thursday night week. ‘ Sir George Lloyd, M.P. for. Eastbourne. has accepted the offer of the High Oomim issiouiendnp of Egypt in succession to Viseoui »i Allen by. Sir George Lloyd was formerly Governor of Bombay. He is a student of Eastern affairs and participated in the Great War in Egypt. Gallipoli. Mesopotamia. arid the Hedjaz.
