WEEK-END PILGRIAIAGES
WELLINGTON, May 15. A temporary pyramidal cover has been erected 'over the gunpit where the late Mr Massey’s coffin lies, and this is so arranged to enable the wreaths which eoukl not- be taken to the graveside yesterday to he displayed. A guard will he stationed there for the next few days, and it is anticipated that there will he a large influx 1 of visitors at the week-end.
A glowing tribute is paid by Mr. J. R. Corrigan, M.P. for Patea, who was present at the funeral of the late Premier, to the excellent arrangements made for the function. It was an enormous undertaking, and he says that it is worth more than special mention that- not a single hitch occurred. It is certainly a great tribute to the organiser, Air. Jas. Hislop (Undersecretary for the Department of Internal Affairs), who was responsible for the general arrangements. Air. Corrigan says that it took the cortege thirty-five minutes to pass any special point. The crowd was very large and lined every point of vantage. At the site of the grave, which actually is the gunpit of the fort on Point Halswell, arrangements were so good that everyone was able to obtain a point from which they could see the funeral ceremonies. A special roadway had been made up the hill, and cars went right round, and wei'e therefore available as s oo n as the ceremonies were concluded.
