AIONTHLY MEETING
The monthly meeting of the Plunket Society was held in the Plunket Rooms on Tuesday, May 12, at 3 p.m. There were present: Alesdames Goodson (chair), Hunter, Bone, McCormick, Campbell, Burdekin, Bright, Winks, Davy, and Alisses Corrigan and King (secretary;. Apologies were received from Mesdames Godfrey, Haggett, Jobson and Tait.
The president of the Rotary Club (Dr. Thomson) and Messrs Bone and Dixon waited on the committee in connection with the building fund campaign. The committee was most anxious to get the debt paid off the new rooms, which were quite an acquisition and a credit to Hawera and the surrounding district. The Rotary Club came prepared to co-operate. Avith the committee in collecting the £4OO to pay for the rooms and their furnishing, and had, in fact, already collected £lOl Is 6d towards this. Arrangements were made so that each member of the Rotary Club would be ready to assist the committee in the AA r ork of canvassing, and members of the committee felt that all would willingly respond to this good cause.
Arrangements were also made to run the usual hoop-la stand and collections during the coming "Winter ShoAv. A special effort A\-as necessary on account of the society being unable to hold its annual fete last February because of the epidemic of infantile paralysis. The ( folloAving subscriptions wer© received during the month; Mesdames C. Buckrell, senr., Trotter, senr., Foyster, Quin 5s each, Mrs Barnard 2s 6d. Accounts to the amount of £lO2 3s lOd Avere passed for payment.
