DAYLIGHT EXPRESS.
TRLALi TO BE GIVEN. The running of a daylight express between Auckland and Wellington will be given a. trial in November next-. ‘llh.e Minister of Railways (lion. J. G. Coates) was quite definite in hiiis assurance that this would be done. “The inauguraton of a daylight Main Trunk express will be a very useful experiment, ”he said. “If the traffic proves that there as a demand for such a service, it will of course be continued. It was my intention to make the experiment earlier—in fatit, in time for the Easter t-raitfio —but that wiasi not found possible. j To put on a daylight efc.pres.Si now would not be giving it a fair trial. The name itself would be a misnomer as there would only he a few hours daylight in what is proposed -to be a. 15-hou.rs’ journey. Moreover, passenger traffic in, the winter months would certainly not be .sufficient to make a paying proposition; of three through expresses. Lai,sit. winter there wasi one, this winter there are two, but the traffic will hot. support' three. It will be a, better plan, to make the experiment in, the .summer months, and it will be done.’’
