HAWERA MUNICIPAL BAND.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Hawera Municipal Band was held in the bandroom last night. The following members of the committee attended: Messrs Evans, Brunette, Hawkins, Cook, Franks, Lacey (secretary), and Fox (conductor). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs Dixon (chairman), Ho.ddle, Mahoney and Black.

During the evening a fair amount of business was transacted. Thanks were accorded Mr Collins for the gift of a stove for the bandroom, also- Mr Hulbert for framing band photos. The question of procuring new instruments was fully discussed. Many of those in use are absolutely worn out. It was resolved to hold a- bazaar at an early date to raise funds for new instruments. Several promises of assistance have already been given, and it is hoped that the public will rally round and make the venture a- huge success, as the band ■ has already proved its worth. The conductor’s report was as fol-lows:—-‘‘I have to report that for the month of April the band was on parade twelve times, eight being for rehearsal and four public performances. The attendance and conduct of the ba*id has been good on all parades. It is with regret that I have to report the loss of two good bandsmen, viz., Messrs Reynolds (secretary) and Wallace BB flat bass, both having left the district. I have filled the positlo'iT'oh the BB flat bass with a pupil, Mr Dahl, and a cornet- pupil, Master Hawkins, has been admitted to the band. I *<i-Y 0 a harintone and cornet vacant, for two learners.” ■

After referring to the solo contest which he was promoting amongst members of the band, which takes place tonight in the Oddfellows’ Hall, Lieut. Fox .remarked “Our next- competition will be a quartette contest, for which Mr Brunette has kindly donated four trophies.”
