BROTHER ATTACKS SISTER. ACCUSED BEFORE THE COURT. GIRL’S STORY OF THE AFFAIR. (BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION AUCKLAND, May 7. Bertie Best, aged 25, appeared at the PoLce. Count this' morning charged with wounding Gertrude Lest, has sister, on April 15, with intent to do grievous bodily harm. Gertrude Best said that she was a single woman, 26 year® of age. She had kept house lor the accuse d at Hamilton in March,, but she was frightened by her brother, who was sometimes sober and sometimes drunk. She cam© to Auckland! on April 10 and the accused followed. She refused to again keep house, for him, and he struck her on the face.- Witness kept company with Mr. Scholz, to whom the accused objected, isitating that Scholz wais a, German. On April 14, the accused accompanied witness, his sister Eileen and Scholz to. the theatre. The accursed picked a row there with witness,. in consequence of. which she and Sohoiiz left the theatre. The. accused, who had had some liquor, was calling Scholz iai German and, witness a prostitute. After that- the accused and Scholz had a, fight. Next clay, about 7.30 p.m., the accused, came twice to the place, where witness, was employed as. a< waitress. She was told by the woman in charge of the kitchen to take him home. Witness, told the acwould not, go back to the restaurant, because he had made a scene and she was going to look for Sciholy,. The accused rushed her and «he felt her throat being cut and Slashed. She rushed into a. shop. The accused was, drunk but knew what he was doing. The reason he assaulted her was because she. was going with Scholz. He alleged immorality between herself and Scholz. She was .still being treated as an outpatient. at the hospital.
