TE KIRI.
(From Our Own Correspondent). There was a very generous response to tne Hall Committee’s canvass jor the gift auction last Friday, when the kali was crowded with eager spectators to watch the tug-of-war. 'The \\ aiteaka Road team was successful in winning from tne Hall Commit cee- hv tioce inches after tie in g in the first, pull. Messrs R. and G. Thomas then auctioned the £oods, after which dancing was indulged in to music supplied by Air, Airs and Ali ss Collins, an extra, being played by Aliss Oaten by. I believe the funds benefited to the extent of £34. Mr Collins, at a lew words of thanks, mentioned that the annual meeting is being hold on Saturday, 9th inst.. and invited all ro attend. Taungatara boys journeyed to Inglewood to the tournament. but were beaten after a gallant fight by Tuimoana. When it is remembered that they pul'ed at Ingjewood on Thursday n'ight and at Te Kiri on Friday night (some at least, and all were at the hall), and then again at Inglewood oil Saturday night, 1 think they should feel proud of their powers of endurance. Two and three hours’ sleep is hardly enough under the circumstances.
