The rain, wide caused a cessation of shooting yesterday, continued till last night and then cleared up, followed by more than a suspicion oi frost. An early start was made with the shooting, the Taranaki match, ten shots at 8(.)(j yards, being taken first. The second leg o.i the Otago match (960) yards was held jn abeyance while the executive debated a protest from the competitors against the decision to permit the men who had fired at this* range in the rain yesterday, to exercise the option of retaining their scores or to start afresh. This decision was finally reversed and the men must now keep what points they had on. Most of them will regret this. Conditions this morning were excellent, a bright sun, clear sky, and wonder of wqmlers, no wind, last night's southerly : having ••gone west.” Apart from a little matter of elevation, the shooting was practically “dead on.” Sutherland (Goodwood) and Hunt (Wellington) got on possibles, and 49’s were scored by E. Bailey (Kimbolton), F. S- King (Wanganui)* Donald (Opaki), West (Kenwich), G„ J. Harrison (Hawera), Heney (Christchurch), Orr (Grevtown). Forty-eights were fairly numerous and forty-sevens should be lucky to get into the prize list. Rifle club men last- night re-elected the following representatives to the executive of the Association : Hffm. S. Elliott (Auckland). Major (I. S. Taylor (Wellington), Capt. W. N. Masefield (Canterbury), and F. J. Silvias (Otago). Anderson (Kaituna) with 48 retains his lead for the Belt, with 419, Hunt is next at present, with 412. TA RAN AKI M AT'CH. Scores down to 45 got in and eleven were counted, opt. B grade was won by J£. S. h’4.ig (Wanganui) 49, and the runner-up wans G. Aitkinsi ( Unutoke) 48. The tyro list was headed by D. .Piling (Auckland Suburbs) 48, and the i miner-nip- was F. Benton (Featlxerston) 45. On completion, of the Taranaki Match, and including half of the Otago Match, the leaders . for the King’s Fifty are : —P. Anderson 419, Donald 414. Hunt 412, W. H. Ballinger 409, Carter 409, D. 'McKenzie •198, G. Masefield 407, Iveir 406, Frank 408, West 44)5, F. Bajley 404. E S. King 103, W. S. Mills 403. Pimm 403, C. Whiteman 403, G. P. Harrison 401, Piper 401. The Hiuvkeks Bay Match, ten shots at 900 yards, was completed by lunch and was won. by J. Paterson (Wanganui) with 45. The nmnor-up waisi W. J. Milroy (Waimea) 45, followed by T. Orr (Grey town) 44, A. Graham (Dunedin) 44, A Symomls (Wellington Suburbs) 44. While this match was in progress! a fresh breeze from the right sprang up. and brought a good many men to elartili. Anderson only got thirty-nine, so b.i.s held on the .loader-ship is pre carious.
