A formal exchange of letters has conveyed the intimation that- an understanding has been reached between the Government and the Japanese delegation which lia.s been, conferring with the Foreign Office on the subject of the disposal of the remitted portion of the Japanese Boxer indemnity for culiturjal purposes. It has- been decided to appoint a joint commission of twenty-one members, of which ten are Japanese and the rest Chinese, including the chairman. It is estimated the commission will handle two. million dollars annually. It is proposed to begin activities immediately. —Rleuter.
