A PUBLIC EFFORT.

A, meeting was called by the Mayor to consider what steps should be taken to render assistance to the‘Mead family . The Mayor placed the facts .before the meeting, and stated the case was a very deserving one. The Meads were recently from Home, and, through the unfortunate fire on April 30, had lost everything they possessed, as well a® the life of their little daughter. Although they had, not been living in bur own towit district, that should ‘stand fc.- nothing; help .should he given where needed. The Revs. Goertz and Brown and Mr. Armour also spoke. It was resolved to open lists in the town and solicit any support that- can be given, the lists to bo closed on the Kith in.st.' A collection, taken, up in the room realised the sum, of £l7 14s Cd. A committee consisting of Mrs T. E. Roberts, the Mayor, Mr. J. B. Thomson (treasurer) and the Revs. Goertz and Brown was appointed to carry out the wishes of, the meeting.
