BUTTER IN TUBS.
COMMANDS BETTER PRICES
OLD - FASHIONED HABITS,
DISADVANTAGE TO DOMINION
BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. Received May 6, 9.45 a.m. LONDON, May 5. Air Brigg, retiring president of the Manchester Wholesale Provision Association, suggests that the Government should compel all imported butter to be packed in 56 lb boxes instead of tubs. He points out that until recently Continental butter fetched sixpence per lb over New Zealand’s-best, though there was no difference in value. Traders explain that the difference in price is solely due to women in certain districts who do not believe they are getting, their money’s worth unless they see it ladled, from tubs. They always thought the best came from tubs, and cannot change their old-established habits. _ _ A Mr Brigg; adds : “New Zeaalhd cannot ship in tubs owing to [frieght charges, and difficulty of stowing.”— A. and N.Z.'Assn.
