RIVERLEA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

THE COMING BALL.

Arrangements in connection with the plain and fancy dress masquerade ball to bq, held on Thursday next are well in hand, and from all reports the function promises to be a huge success. Last week a most successful ladies’ meeting was held to make arrangements for the supper and this will be of the same lavish nature as was that of the re-opening ball in October. A strong ladies’ committee has . been formed, and working in conjunction with the general committee, will superintend these arrangements. It has been decided to decorate the hall, and the general committee ate carrying out this duty on Wednesday evening. and also to polish-'the floor to the usual excellence for whith the Riverlea hall is noted. Excellent music, viz., piano, violin, cornet and side-drums, has been engaged and this is stated by those who know the musicians to be the best obtainable. Many dancers are known to he coming in fancy dres6. for which good prizes are -to be given, and an open waltzing competition will also be held, and this always draws keen competition. Altogether a most enjoyable evening is hound to be spent by all fortunate enough t.o he present. HALL COMMITTEE.

A meeting of the Hall Committee was held on Monday last, when there were present Messrs. W. E. Hay, president, in the chair, J. A. Symes, Jack Gibson, H. F. Johns, H. and EHooper, F. Schmidt, W. Franks, A. Gibson, C. Slater and M. F. Voullaire. secretary.;. Correspondence was received from the Rowan Hall committee- re hire of hall, and the secretary was instructed to reply on usual terms. On the motion of Mr. H. Hooper seconded by Mf- J. A. Symes, the chairman, Mr. W- E. Hey and the secretary were appointed to operate the society’s banking account. Final arrangements in connection with the coraig hall were made. Messrs H. Hooper and J. A. Symes were appointed as door-keepers and Messrs Jack Gibson,' C. Slater, H. F. Johns and E. Hooper were appointed as M.C’s. The' secretary reported having attended the ladies’ meeting, and the arrangements made there were cordially approved by the committee. CORRECTION. In my report of the annual meeting of the Hall Society which appeared in the Star on the 16tli April there was an error. In the reference to the bal-ance-sheet there appeared in the list of expenses “architect £6 Os 8d” this should have read “architect £4 10s; repairs and renewals £6 Os Bd.” HOUSEHOLDERS’ MEETING. The annual meeting of householders for the election of the school committee is to be held on Monday next and it is hoped there will he a- good attendance of householders. This will he the first meeting in the renovated school as the last one was held just prior- to' the work thereon commencing and those residents who have not yet made an acquaintance with the, new building from the interior will. I think, he pleased to see the great improvement there.

GENERAL. 'l’lie weather remains fairly, good, and in fact has been very warm and fine, and though there was a change on Monday, it is still quite fair. The milk supply continues its rapid decrease and the output now down to 22 cheeses per diem. The factory tests on the 20th ranged from 4.0 to 5.6. Considerable interest is being taken amongst both farmers apd factory hands in the articles by Mr. G. H. Buckeridge and in the discussion thereon, and mah-y arguments take place as to who is right and who is wrong on the vexed question of “yield and ratio.” Whatever the result, however, there is no doubt I think that many know more about it now than they did before, and the decision I believe has done good in an educational, sense.
