THE TWO KINGS.
There was once a king who sent a message to the king of a neighlxniring country, saying: “Send me a bine pig with a black tail, or elseTo this the other replied: “J have not got one; 1 and if I had —” When the first king got his answer he flew into a great rage, and declared war against the other. For many weary months fighting went on, hut at last the two kings arranged a meeting.
“What did you mean,” said the first, “by saying: Send me a blue pig with a bla'ck tail, or else — ?” “Why,” answered the other, “I meant a. blue pig with a black tail, or else some other colour. And now let me ask yon what you meant by your message: 1 have not got one, ’and if I had ' 1
“My meaning was simple enough; for, of course, if I had had such a pig I should have sent it.” “Dear me, how foolish we have been ! Let us make peace and lie friends.” So peace was made, and the story was written in the annals of both countries to serve as a warning to those' who should come after to he slow to take offence.
