THE SLEEPY SMILE.
A smile once crept to somebody’s door, Hut saw it was a rainy day '“Oh dear!’’ it sighed, “If the sun
won’t shine I shall not try to be gay. &o the smile curled up and went to sleep. Then the frowns said “Now’s our time 1 ’Tis on just such a day That we best can play. Out of the windows we’ll climb. ’» So the frowns crept out and each other
chased But quarreling soon were they l*V>r frowns you see can never agree When on any face they play. They made such a fuss that the tears
came out. , Prom-the windows. And from the door Unme tumbling fretful words, Which muddled things up still tnore. Yet the smile still slept, when, suddenly, A wonderful thing occurred. ’Twas just one word in a low sweet
voice That the smile so lazy heard. He waked and out of the windows peeped. Then he rushed out from the door. The frowns and the tears scampered off in a fright And never were heard of more. Oh. I’ d like to go round to wake up smiles With laughter add shouts of glee, For everyone’s glad when the smiles
are a-rfake /' And the frowns are asleep, you see * •' —T>. M Macdonald.
