His many friends will regret to learn that the knee afterwards became badly swollen and will require careful attention, and this will prevent his active participation in sport for an indefinite period. The stirring strains of the bagpipes now frequently heard in. Ha-wera are evidences that the Hawera Highland Pipe Band is rapidly progressing, towards! the tsitage that an early public appearance may be looked for. r lThc band comprises twelve members, of whom seven are now piiper>3, four, of the number appearing with the Eltha.m Pipe Band. Praiotiees. are being regu;larlv held under the instruction of Mr, JY P. Crawford, of Elthani, and there are quite sufficient Scots in Haw era to srive the band a royal baptism on its first parade.
