FINED £2OO FOR BOOKMAKING. CBY TELEGRAPH F'*ESS ASSOCIATION. AUCKLAND, April 21. At the Police Court, James Johnson, aged 4,6. was fined £2(X/ tor carrying on business as a bookmaker on the Avondale racecourse yestmday. The police stated that the accused was a man worth £9OOO, but he was carrying on as a bookmaker in a small way. The defence was that tue accused had only made a bet with friends, but his clients included a po'iceu’-c.a.
