r MONTHLY MEETING. At the monthly meeting of the Stratford Countv Council on Saturday there were present: Crs. E. Walters (chairman), J. T. Belcher, T. R. Anderson, J. O’Neill, S. Parker, S. Pitt, M. Davies, J. Jacobsen and W. H. Were. GENERAL. A portion of the Upper Manaia Road as far as the radius line of the Egmont National Park was referred to as being in “a shocking state of repair by the manager of the Dawson rails mountain house (Mr. J. P. Murphy). The road was said to be full of ruts, and it was considered that the county would be doing the travelling public a nr re at favour if something were done to improvo the condition of the road.— engineer was instructed to inspect the road and report at the next meeting. TSSUE OF MOTOR LICENSES.

The ranger (Mr. H. J. Spearman) reported that 548 licenses had been issued to motorists up to the present time, but there was still a number to come in. . The report was adopted. ENGINEER’S REPORT.

The engineer reported, inter alia: South Riding.—Fifty-four yards of shingle were used on the M a mar an Road from Wingrove Road junction to a point opposite Mr. W T ells’ gate. While the pit on Mr. Johns’ property was open, 267 yards of shingle were also carted on to the Wingrove Road for maintenance. The grader has been used on the Warwick, Victoria, Bud and Mountain roads. A set of six 9-mch pipes has been placed in the Skinner Road. . c West Riding.—'l he tarring ot bo chains of the Manaia South, 112 chains of the Manaia North, and 14 chains ot Opunake No. 3 roads has been completed. About half a chain of Opunake No. 2, at the top of two grades, has been cut down, remodelled and tar (Touted. One of the cuttings on Opunake No. 1 has been cleared of overhanging scrub and fern, and the formation widened. The metalling of the lower half mile of ihe_Jßonalcl Roadhas been completed. A set of seven 9-inch pipes was placed in this road. At the junction of the Ronald and Finnerty roads it was necessary to put ten 9-mch pipes in the latter road, 521 cubic yards of metal being used on the Repaid Road. Forty-two yards were distributed on the Lower Finnerty Road for maintenance.
