REOPENING OF SCHOOLS.
HAWED A TECHNICAL HIGH SCHOOL.
Pupils at the Hawera Technical High Sciiool have now settled down to work, and the report of the principal showed that prospects were very good indeed. He stated that he was more than satisfied with the attendance. The school had now 170 pupils on the roll, a few more than at this time last year. Air. Gray also said they were a very fine type of scholar. The number* too, was specially satisfactory in view of the opening of the district high school at Aianafa. The staff and pupils seemed to get into their stride at once, and work was going with a great swing. HAWERA DISTRICT SCHOOL.
A further report from the Leadmaster (Air. F. A. Bates) showed thal more children were continuing to arrive and the numbers had gone i.p materially. This was especially the case "with the higher classes, but in the lower divisions they were not coming in so freely. This was probably natural and due to the anxiety of the parents for their younger children. In yesterday’s report it was stated that 523 was the number on the roll, but it should have read in attendance. Looking back to the last quarter of 1924, Air. Bates found that the average attendance was 604, so that the present number, considering the abnormal times and the difficulties under whieii the work was being done, was quite satisfactory.
