PLUNKET SOCIETY.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Ha.we.ra Plunket Society was held in the Plunket Rooms on Tuesday, April 14, at 3 p.m. There were present Mesdames Goodson (chair), Jobson, Campbell, liaggett, "Winks, Tait (treasurer), and Miss King (secretary). An apology was received from Mrs Bone, Mr Jobson waited on the committee in connection with the lease. This was the first meeting held in the new rooms, and the committee felt very satisfied with this step forward. When the rooms were paid for th-e society will hare considerably lessened its working expenses, which were becoming a great strain on the committee. It greatly appreciated the Rotary Club’s assistance in the building campaign. Although the furnishing was not yet quite complete, the committee feel sure the bright, cheerful, restful rooms would be fully appreciated by the mothers who come to consult nurse, and also a. great comfort to its hard-worked nurse. It was decided to invite the,.Rotary Club to see the rooms A letter was received from the Stewart Karitane Hospital, asking the Hawern Plunket Society to contribute towards its maintenance. The committee could not see its way to help at present, having a debit balance of £79 7s 5d and further liabilities. The annual report and balance-sheet were laid before the committee. These were thought to he very satisfactory. The nurse’s report showed good progress during the year in Hawera and the three sub-branches, Manaia, Opunake and Kaponga. It was decided that the annual meeting should he held as early as possible. The following subscriptions were received during the last three months: Mesdames Smyth, Thwaites, Hawkins, Patterson. Young and anonymous, 10s each : Mesdames Oldfield, Barker, AYil“on, Muir, Parker. Peters. Webber, Mevrick and Barringer, 5s each. Accounts to the amount of £39 13s Old were passed for payment; also £l5O, first payment on building, has been paid, since last meeting.
