SCHOOL JUBILEE.
SCH.KMI-; DECIDED ON. Details of a scheme for celebrating the jubilee of the Hawera School were arranged at a.- meeting of t<he general committee previously appointed, together- with several old scholars, held at' the Borough Council Chambers Ja,st evening. Mr. ,1. W. Harding presided and the attendance numbered over twenty. 'The chairman said it had occurred ta him that they should make sure that there was enough enthusiasm- to carry the scheme to a successful issue. Some thought it was a little too early to raise a great deal of enthusiasm, but m view of the fact that the function was mentioned for May 13, he did not think so.
Mr. J. Campbell considered that May 13, the actual anniversary of the school, would not be a suitable date, owing to the races being held at Hawera on that, day. He moved that the function be held on. June 3. —Mrs. W. Hawkins seconded the motion. Mr. R. Syme considered that June 3 was too long alter tlie anniversary date, and he moved that .May 15 be selected.—Mrs. Paterson, .seconded the amendment, which, on being put, was carried.
It was then decided that .the function take the form of a. social evening at the Winter Show building-, prdvid” ing the hall required was available, and that- a charge for admission lie made and the -supper be provided for by a caterer.
A sub-committee comprising Mesdanies .Death, Peterson and Jobson, Mis® Slattery and Messrs. .J. Campbell and F. A. Bates was set up to search the echool register and circularise all ex-pupiilsi A sub-committee consisting of Miss Slattery and Messrs. Bates, and Harding was .set nn to arrange a programme for a, children’s function in the school on the afternoon o,f May 15. The ladies; present, were elected as a sub-committee with power to add to attend to supper arrangements. Miss Corrigan and Mrs. Tarrant, Messrs. Campbell and Westwood were appointed as. a. .sub-committee to arrange .a musical programme. It was agreed that sneciai invitations would be sent to the following: Hon. C. J. P.arr (Minister of Education). Mr. W. A. Collins (chairman of the Wanganui Education Boat’d), the chairman and members of tlie Taranaki Education Board, Mr. ,T. Can ch ley (Director of Education). Messrs. J. R. Corrigan and 0. J. Hawkeo, M.TVs, the Mayor of Hawera, and teachers who have been attached to the staff of the school.
