The acceptances for the first day of the Avon, dale Jockey Club's autumn meeting on Saturday are :

AUSTRALIAN RACING: A.J.C.—THIRD DAY. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. SYDNEY, April 15. The third day of the Australian jockey Club’s autumn ...meeting was held at Rahdwiek to-day. The. attendance was 30,000, and was no doubt affected by the overnight’s rain and threatening weather. 1 Racing was on the quiet side. Heroic was the unpleasant surprise of the day. After his dismal failure in the AllAged Stakes he was again the popular favourite in the Cumberland Stakes, lint he finished last. On his Doncaster showing The Hawk whs regarded as the next best for the All-Aged Stakes, arid he vindicated the confidence repc6ed in him. Wifidbag’s stock .was immeasurably etthaficed its a result of his showing throughout the meeting. Results: Second Hurdle Race, about two miles and three furlongs.—Pildin (10.8) 1, Giiidi (10.8) 2, Pidbi (12.0) 3. Eight started. Pildin fell in behind Old Grey into second position for the first halfmile, and then, went to the front and was never headed, winning by two ( lengths. Time, 4.26 J. All-Ag4d Stakes, one mile. —The Hawk (8.12) 1, Whittier (9.1) 2, Night Patrol (9.1) 3. Also started: Beaufortl and Heroic. The popular fancy was FTerom, but at the barrier the champion played up, and whilst facing reverse to the starting post the field was dispatched to one of the worst starts ever witnessed at Randwick. Night Patrol, the Victorian Governor’s horse, was also shockingly treated by the bad start. Whittier led into the straight, but at the half-distance The Hawk came through and won comfortably by threequarters of a length, a length and a quarter separating.the second and third horses. Time, 1.37-4. Coogee Handicap, ohe mile and one furlong.—Border Chief (6.10) 1, Cistercian (8.7) 2, Riga (7.5) 3. Twenty-one started. Mountain Song, the Queensland champion sprinter, though splendidly placed on the rails, was chopped off early. Sailing Home, Narrogin and Jimmie B were prominent to the l'halfdistance. Then Border Chief shot past the field, and won by a length and three-quarters. Time, 1.52.1. Champagne Stakes, six furlongs.— Manfred 1, Los Gatos 2, Petuiya 3. Eleven starters. Los Gatos jumped from the barrier, and was joined by Petunia. the pair beifig four lengths from Manfred at the half-mile#. Approaching the distance Manfred closed in on the leaders, and non by eight lengths in the record time for Ramlwick of 1.11. Cumberland Stakes, one mile and three-quarters.—Windbag (8.4) 1, Lilypond (8.11) 2, David (9.3) 3. Also started: Virgin Gold and Heroic. David went to the front quickly and established a big lead, but Virgin Gold took the field up at the mile post. Windbag went to the front at the distance, and successfully stalled off a determined challenge bv Lilynond. Won by a length and a half. Heroic was last. Time, 3.3. City Handicap, ohe mile and five furlongs.—Polvcletah (8.9) 1. Houdini (6.11) 2, Lady Valais (7.13) 3. Eleven starters. Won by a, length and a quarter. Time, 2.461.

WESTLAND RACES. (BY TELEGRAPH — PRESS ASSOCIATION'. HOKITIKA, April 16. The Westland Racing Club’s autumn meeting was held to-day in unfavourable weather, the conditions being cold and showery. The attendance was fair and the course was heavy. The totaliSator handled £6264, as against £6821 last year (when the railway strike was on), and £8613 on the previous year. Results: Trial Handicap, six furlongs.—Prince Charleroi 1, Marble Bar 2, Probate 3. Also started: Hallowmoon, Calibiirn, Espade, Bonny Clan. Won by a head, three lengths between second and third. Time, 1.19.

Easter Hurdles, one mile and a half. —Caverock 1, Bestir 2, Cushman 3. Also started: Big - Push, Phil May, Elixir, Lord Nagar. \N on by half a length, the same distance between second and third. A line race. Time, 2.51. Express Trot, one mile. —Velocity 1, Foremost 2, Queen’s General 3. Also started: Plain George, Galindo Doll, •Miss Chancellor, Arran Lad, Tracey Boy, Merry Logan, Never Will. Won by a length, eight lengths between second and third. Time, 2.23. Autumn Handicap, one mile and a quarter. —Prosperity 1, Fresco 2. Zero 1 Hour 3. Also started: Viewpoint, Prince Ferouz, Bitters. At the end of the half-mile Viewpoint dropped out. having broken a blood vessel. Won easily by two lengths, half a length between second and third. Time, 2.17. President’s Handicap, five and a half furlongs.—Some Abbey 1. Kikini 2, Picaninny 3. Also started: Tempe. Deep Drive. Won by three-quarters of a length, three lengths between second and third. Time, 1.12. . Dominion Trot, one mile and a half. —Athos 1, Marion Junior 2, Tekarere 3. Also started: Hnon Drift. Ocean Whispets, Arran Chief, Galindo Doll. Arran Chief lost its driver. Won easily by three lengths, three lengths between second and third. Time, 4.9 2-5. High-weight Handicap, seven furlongs.—Kuia 1, Rapid Rose 2, Espada 3.
