(Bv Telegraph.—Special to Star.) | CHRISTCHURCH, April 14. I The Canterbury Jockey Chib’s autumn meeting was concluded in ideal wea--tlier. The racing was again most interesting, the seven .races providing 'great' contests. Gleaming had a walkover in the Challenge Stakes. Puwhero was. an* even money favourite lor the Purswick Hurdles, with the others fairly evenly backed, all at good prices. Red Criss led Petunia and Puwliero the stmids, but Puwheio soon jumped to the front, and round ■the top turn the orde.r was PmvherO, Adjutor, Red Kriss, and Petunia. Puwhero and Adjutor were on terms at the lust fence, and Adjutor went on to win hv lour lengths. Puwhero was vbeaten by only half a head for second place by Petunia, who finished well. ■Bedrock fell and broke a 'eg, being afterwards destroyed. Nadaripo. John .Bradbury and Sparklight were well backed, in that order, in the Autumn Nursery. Cornstalk. Nadarino and John Bradbury were the .fust to show out, .John Bradbury led ■on to the course proper and heat Nadarino home by a length. Passing Hour was a head away third, with Sparklight and Vesperus next. The Barn Owl - Rich Prize bracket was hacked down to odds on in the Yaldhurst Welter, with Gay Juliet and Ayrburn also well in favour. Los Ambus piloted the field to the turn, the most prominent being Rich Prize, Quality and Gay Ju'iet. The leader was done at the distance, and Gay Juliet came through on the rails to heat Rich Prize by half a length. Barn Owl was a similar distance away third, with Los Ambus and Lady Gay next. Kilris was favourite for the Addington Handicap, Coch-y-Bondhu, Carnot and Corintliic, all being well supported. The leading hunch to. the turn comprised Peho, Cocli-y-Bondhu, Kilris and Retrospect. The last-named .came away at the distance and won easily by four lengths from Carnot, who had been left badly at. the harrier .rise Peho was two lengths away third, with Gamebag. Winkie’s Rebel and Kilris next. Pilliewinkie was slightly better hacked than Fool’s Paradise in the Sockburn Handicap, with Haze well supported. and a fair amount oJ money for Red Wink. Pilliewinkie was left and Haze was soon well clear of Mountain Lion, with Fool’s Paradise, Royal star and Reel Wink following at intervals. Fool’s Paradise moved up at the turn, and Pilliewinkie also, came through, with Red Wink. Fool’s Paradise forged ahead in the run home, and v.-on by *half a length from Haze, with Mountain Lion three lengths awav third. Red Wink, Royal Star and Pi'Pewinkie, together, were next. Gloaming was opposed only by Chignon in the Challenge Stakes, and th? ‘Tote” was not opened. Gloaming led nil the way, to win by two lengths from his mate. , , . , Penetis, Civility. Moorland and Cvraiid Knio-ht were hacked in that order in the Templeton Handicap, Pencils being a hot favourite. Finom. led Moorland and Grand Knudit on to the course proper, with Firestiok last. Civility rnnio fast in the straight and won by h\vo lencrths from Finom, with Grand Knight half a length away third. Peneus and Moorland we_re next. Sinosi was n verv decided favourite for the Final Handicap, and there was o-ood hacking for Tarleton and Starmist. Will Oakland began best, and went out with a big break from Top Score, Siaosi and Starmist, Tarleton being slow to find his feet. Will Oakland was still well clear from Ton Score at the turn, where Tarleton had caught the field. Will Oakland in the end won easily hv three lengths from Tarleton. with Saiosi four lengths away third. Starmist was fourth.*
