HOW THEY RACED,

v NOTES FROM FEILDING

(Special to Star.) FEILDING, April 14

Contrary to that of Saturday, the weather was ideal for the conclusion of the Feilding meeting. The attendance was very large and speculation was brisk, oyer £43,000 going through the totalisator.

Te Kawa was- a pronounced favourite for the Kiinbdlto.n Hurdles, carrying twice as much as the second choice, Red Head. Boil panel and Te Kawa were always the leading pair, but Te Kawa spoilt what chance he had by running clean through a jump, thereby losing much ground For a beginner Bonomel jumped well, and passing the half-mile post lie opened up a good lead. Te Kawa closed on Bonomel coming to the final jump, but tlie latter had something in reserve and won easily from Te Kawa. Red Head was a good third and Taitaiata fourth. Papaponga was the choice of the backers for the Rewa Hack, but Shut Eve and Tutankhamen also came in for strong support L. Pine got Shut Ey.e away smartly and, followed by Tutankhamen and Miss Hupana, he led into the straight. Galloping freely Shut Eve won nicely from pana, who just beat Rehutai, The latter got off badly and this spoilt a good chance.

Good Sport was slightly better supported than Ala rie and Gaze for the Faster Handicap. From the barrier rise Imperial Spark led, with Alari'e, Kilfaire and Gaze following. There was no change in this order till the home turn, where the field closed lip. In a good race Alaric stayed on better thalii Gaze to just beat that gelding, with Kilfaire and Imperial Spark in third and fourth places.

Attractive was a better favourite than Bonogne for the Awahuri Welter, while Blue Jay, Blue Peter, Wilderness and Laval Maid each came in for support. Blue Jay and Lieut.. Bill were ,the early leaders from Bo.nogue. At the straight entrance Attractive moved up quietly and was in front when well in. the straight. Over the last half furlong Bonogne challenged, but just failed to reach Attractive, with Kiloruni and Loyal Maid close up. Rational was paying just about, evens for the Denbigh Handicap, but after being well placed beliiud Lipsol and Shut Eye over the early stages, he stopped badly and was last to finish. Koodoo did not get a good passage over the first five furlongs, but finished well to win from Miss Ilupana. In a very bad lot, Aropeta was a slightly .better favourite than Taltaroa for the Waiuta Stakes. When the tapes rose Red Imp took charge and led throughout to beat Eoosevate, which finished well. Takaroa just beat Aropeta for third place. In a large pool Arclieen' was a slightly better favourite than Bonena, while Troilus and Road Hog were almost as well supported as Bonena. From the rise .of the tapes Troilus took charge and over most of the journey had Arclieen, Wee Sandy, Eehutai and Bonena as his nearest followers. These were the leading division at the straight entrance, where Road Hog joined issue, and in a great race o\ ei the last furlong Bonena just beat Road Ilog, with Troilus and Arclieen very close up. A wonderfully successful meeting closed with the Malcino Welter, in which event Hentliersprig and Mountain Bell were backed pound for pound, while lhapotoa was almost as well supported. Lipsol and lhapotoa were the early leaders, but in the straight half a dozen horses were fighting for supremacy, when Heatliersprig dashed up and won by a neck front lhapotoa, with Irapuka a head away. *
