A young, miaii named Alan Down Bail lon, (aged 28, pleaded guilty at the Magistrate’s Goura to receiving fraudulently, by means 'of forging and issuing valueless cheques, money and goode to the total value of £36 Os. He was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. Among exploits said to (have been attempted by the accused, was that of representing himself* as ia> friend of Sir Joseph. Ward. FINED FOR OBSTRUCTING THE POLICE. DUNEDIN, April 9. In the Police Court, Arthur Morris Sherriff was fined £lO for wilfully, obstructing the police. . v * The evidence showed that on March 21, when many motors were proceeding to the venue of a hill climbing contest, a police trip ,was set to detect unlawful speeding. The defendant placed' himself further down to warn all motorists, and.it was stated that this action nearly caused an accident. ■ YOUTHS’ BAD START. WELLINGTON, April 9. Four youths appeared at the .Magistrates’ 'Court at Lower Hutt on charges of converting cars to their own Use, but not so as to be guilty of theft. They were also charged With breaking, entering and theft of money and goods. Against. Ernest- Huia King there were nine motor-car charges, two of breaking and entering, and one of theft; against Hector Pereival Wenham there were eight car charges,..two of breaking and entering; against Norman William Kearney there were four car car charges, one' of breaking and entering, and two of theft; against David Fletcher Silbery there were three car, charges and one of theft. The police said that nothing bad previously been charged against any of them. . Silbery and Kearney were each fined £5 on one motor conversion charge, and £5 on one theft charge, and were convicted on the other charges. Kearney was admitted to probation under strict conditions. King and Wen ham, bn the theft charge, were given three months’ reformative treatment find ordered to pay £lO edeh for damage' to one car. They also were put on probation for three years. STATE CHURCH FURNITURE. AUCKLAND, April 9. George Leo Gussv pleaded guilty at the Police Court to stealing practical ly all the furniture from the Church of the Assembly of God, valued at £SO. He sold it for £7 10s and married on ■ the proceeds. He was remanded for sentence and the accused was the assistant pastor. K.TAOR.A TR AGEDY. OAMARU, April 9. At the Magistrates Coiirt this morning Reginald Hoad, the alleged prepertnajtor of the Kidora. tragedy, was charged witlf the attempted suicide and was elected to he dealt with at „the Supreme Court. The inquest on the victims is proceeding, after which Hoad will be formally charged with murder.
