A Sydney Press Association message reports that Sir Harry Lauder has arrived from the East, and will procried to NeAV Zealand by the Manama to-morroAv. . He will spend a holiday fishing pi the South Island. A fareAvell dinner Avas tendered Mr H. A. Catannch at Waver ley on Friday. The 1 unction, which AA’as under the auspices of the Waverley R.S.A., was one of the largest gatherings of its kind eevr held in Wavedley, over 70 persons being present. Mr C. E. Johnston, president of the R.S.A., occupied the chair. ' Appreciative references were made to Mr Catanach’s services and his capabilities as an officer of the P. and T. Department, and he Avas made the recipient of a solid leather suitcase on behalf of the citizens of the toAvn. Mr J. E. Broadfoot, Chief Postmaster at Christchurch. Avill retire from the service on June 9 after 37 years’, service in the Post and Telegraph Department. Mr Broadfoot, whose principal reason for retiring is his Avife’s health, joined up as telegraph messenger in 1888 and served at Auckland office until 1907. Since then he has held several important positions, including that of postmaster at Eltham. In December, 1921, he went to Christchurch as Chief Postmaster. Mr Rroad’foot intends to take Aip his residence in Auckland. Advice has been received that Mr J. P. O’Gorman, postmaster at Hawera-for the past two years, will shortly retire on superannuation. He will be granted six months’ leaye of absence, Avhich Avill make his service at Hawera three years, and his total service in the Department 'forty-two years. Mr O’Gorman began his service in the P. and T. service in 1883, Avhen he joined as a 'cadet at Ross (West Coast). -After lour }ears there he left, in 188/, Queen’s jubilee year, for Waipatva. He was relieved on occasions,, arid. then was at Feilding for some time till he AA-as appointed District Accountant at Westport, and Avas stationed there till 1917, Avhen he Avas appointed postmaster at Woodville. In 1923 he came to HaAvera, before which he had served also a<t Napier and Auckland. Mr. O’Gorman, during that long neriod saAV many changes in the service. His happy manner and his ever readiness to meet the requirements and com r eniences of the public have made him very popular in HaAvera.
