MANGAMINGI.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) [ A very pleasant evening was spent on Thrrrsdav last at the residence of Mr E. G. Woodley, when the many friends of Mr E. J. Gear gathered together to bid him farewell prior,to his departure from -the district. Songs, games, etc., were indulged in, and things were kept going merrily until 1 a.m. • After supper, which was provided by the ladies, Mr L. E. Jackson, in a fine speech, presented the guest of the evening with a very substantial cheque. 11l doing so he stressed the fact that Mr Gear had been for a number of years a very useful member of the School Committee, and that the loss of his services in that respect would be very much felt. Mr Gear, who was received with musical honours,, very feelingly > responded, thanking one and all for their kindness in giving him such a fine send-off, saying that he would always have a warm spot in his heart for his Mangamingi friends, and that he would never forget the many kindnesses extended to him while residing here. At the conclusion of the entertainment Mr F. Parker, in a few very humorous words, thanked Mr and Mrs Woodley and family for a very pleasant time: Mr Woodley briefly responded, and the function ended with cheers for the guest and the host and hostess and the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.”
