HEAVY TRAFFIC.

and local bodies’ lorries. A nice point was made by the Hawera County Clerk at Saturday’s meeting, when the question of heavy traffic was being considered. He had asked the Highways Board for a ruling as to whether local body lorries had to pay the annual fees, and the Board stated that such was the case. The Board also advised that roads on which were toll gates had been declared" Government roads. In terms of the regulations just gazetted, the heavy traffic license operated on all but these Government roads, so that it would appear that motor lorries had no right to be running on such roads. The chairman said, however, that he did not anticipate that there would be any difficulty in this matter, Jor the Department was not game to block heavy traffic from using these roads.
