A LONG DRIFT
WAITOTARA TO WANGAEHU
FISHING PARTY’S EXPERIENCE. ONE MEMBER DROWNED. (BY TELEGRAPH- —PRESS ASSOCIATION J WANGANUI, April 6. Yesterday morning Constable. Willetts, of Waitotara, two lads named Train and Reimenschneider, and Rowe senr., set out from Waitotara on a fishing expedition in a SOA. boat, which was abandoned by the steamer Port Caroline on a rough night when some of the crew attempted to rescue a seaman who had jumped overboard. Great anxiety prevailed-last night when the Waitotara party failed to return. This morning was calm, but a strong westerly sprang up, and it was presumed that the set of the tide would carry the (boatwell down the coast. This proved correct, for a message was received from Wangaehu this morning that the boat had capsized in the breakers and one of the party (name not stated) had been drowned. The Wanganui police immediately sent out a relief party .to bring in the survivors.
A later message stated that it was the lad Reimenschneider who was drowned.
