The House of Commons adjourned sine die the debate on a private member's Adoption of Children Bill, legalising adoption, which at present has no legal status in England. , Sir Geoffrey Butler,, in moving the second reading, pointed out that in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and the United States, adoption was legalised. The Under-Secretary of the Home Office promised that tlie Government would sympathetically consider the committee's recommendation and introduce legislation thereon.
