A CONTRACTOR KILLED. (BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.. MASTERTON, April 2. While quarrying metal in a- pit for the Maurieeville County Council, John Beech, a contractor, a middle-aged man, was buried by a huge fall of earth and rock, estimated at over thirty tons. When extricated lie was found to bo dead. Deceased was working in company with three employees, when one observed that the face of the pit was moving. He called a warning, hut Beech, who was under the toe of the face, was unable to get clear in time. The slip was large enough to partly cover the lorry into which the metal iva-s being loaded. The deceased, who was a married man with- three children, resided at Masterton..
