MANAIA TOWN BOARD.

The Mann in Town Board met last evening. There were present: Commissioners L. G. Nielson, C. I. \\ . Jones, J. Hickey, 3. A. G. Cosgrove, S H. Greaves, N. C. lnnes and Air \Y. J Radley (clerk). Cr. V. H.-Hobday was granted leave of absence. SEWERAGE WORKS.

The construction foreman (Air AY, AlcCormack) reported that laying-and testing of 2125 teet of pipes had been completed, and approximately 2000 feet had been covered. Three man-hole covers which had not arrived • u to i e put in. A start on the southern end had been made: on the Ist inst., rr.d about 100 ft. had been opened up. in order that the- work might he well ahead belore the wet season sets in, it was suggested that six extra men be engaged lor about two weeks. Consideration of an application received from workmen engaged in ppelaying work on the sewerage ■ on strut, tion wa s taken in committee; it oolhg eventually resolved that workmen be paid ,1s per day extra whilst -ngagotl in laying pipes. ESTIMATES OF STREET WORK.

The following estimates, presented by the foreman (Mr T. Dee) for road formation and gravelling on various streets, were approved:— Karaka Street, £ls 18s; Kapai Street, £25 18s; Reimenschneider Street, Manaia Road to Rangiuri Street, with wing on Alanaia Road, £37 -ios; . Hassard Street, £ls 19s; Rangiuri Street, Kapuni Street to Rauae Street, £l4 13s; Rangiuri Street and Ngatai Street to Alain South Road, scarifying, etc,, £5 ss; maintenance gravel, £l3; re-tarring Sutherland Bond, £lB 18s; concrete channelling,' Alanaia Road, £l6 10s. It was decided to give further consideration to the work at a special meeting to be held on Alonday, 6th inst. GOLF CLUB PAVILION.

On behalf of the Alanaia Golf Club, Air A. H. Christie by a i ted upon the board to request permission to. have a small club house erected in the,.vieimty of the tower on the Domain Reserve. Air Christie also pointed out that ax present cars, were' not allowed on the Domain, and requested for the convenience oi these proceeding to the goll course that the roadway leading from Hassard Street along the Horticultural Society’s Section to interior of the grounds be .opened up. He also suggested that the big gate by the hall be moved back as the lower gate would be. sufficient to stop cattle entering the Domain proper. Cr. Hickey considered that the golf pavilion would be an acquisition to the Domain.

On his motion the request was granted.

* The matter of 'opening up the road as suggested wa s left to the works committee, with power to act. FIRE BRIGADE AFFAIRS.

The secretary of the Fire Board (Air Brigade (Air \Y. Vincent) wrote advising that Fireman G. White had been appointed caretaker of the fire and was authorised to reqeive the amount paid by the board for the care taker’s duties. . .

The appointment was approved, and the - remuneration increased from £B’fo £lO per annum. The escretary of the Fire Board (Air W. Vincent) wrote asking the hoard to prohibit the parking of cars over fir© kings; also to have fire plug indicator* made more discernible, and appoint an official to see that plugs are ke_pt >n working order, and that fire appliances in the Town Hall he finished. It was decided to iistruct -the board’s solicitor to have the suggested by-law incorporated, it being further resolved to have erected a notice board indicating the-Alanaia Road on the south side of the Octagon as a parking place for cars.

Superintendent G. White was appointed as fire inspfectoi..

STRAYING STOCK. The presence of straying stock on the town, roads wa it being: resolved, on the suggestion of Cr. Innes, that in future all unregistered' stock found be impounded and that owners be prosecuted in accordance with a, ballot to, be taken. GENERAL. *

Permission was granted_Jjhe Manaia Hibernian, Sports Club to make a charge for admission to- the park grounds on the occasion of the. se,ven-a-side football tournament on April’ 18.

On the application of Cr. Greaves, the Returned Soldiers’ Association, was granted the use of the Town Hall on; Anaao Day, Saturday, 25th inst. Mr. N. D. .Tone,si mad© application to- erect a. motor shed fronting the 1 main street. —The chairman said he und'ersitod it was intended to. build an' iron shed. —Or. lnnes pointed) out that the rite was witlhrini the brick area., in view of which he could -not approve of the application. ;Or. Jones said the shed was to' be' listed as part of the applicant’s business premises for storing motor requisites and as a workshop. He suggested that thei application be granted on the understanding that the shed must be removed should the hoard at any time deem it necessary.—On the motion of Ors. Hidrey and Cosgrove, permission was granted, subject to approval by the chairman after conferring with the board’si solicitor. Mr. N. D;. .Tones wrote asking that a drain fronting hi si property be dleared out. —It was- decided to have the work carried out.

; Nu:rse Merrie made application, for a few loads of earth from, the sewerage excavations to cover drain) pipes put in at the hospital, Sutherland Road. — The request was granted subject to the approval of the construction foreman. The application, of N. "Davis to have a culvert put In. across the water-table 1 fronting his property Was granted, snlbiect to the usual conditions, viz., half cost to be borne by. property owner.

The T. L. Joll: Co-op. Dairy Co., •Ltd., wrote- advising that it was considering taking drainage from the Calmer 'Road factory down, the road and into the Knjouni river below the board’s dam. The. proposed drain would cross the board's property at the corner below the dam, and permission; to >Ta.y a covered in pipei accordingly was requetsed.—Permission wa>s grant-, ed.

Mr. AY. BourkV applied For connection with the water system at the Butler Rfoad terminus.—Extraordinary supply was granted' Accounts , totalling ;C723 Ms 7d were passed, for payment. A finance, .statement tabled covering the year’s working disclosed a credit balance of Co 6 13s 7d
