On the other hand, the death rate, 8.29, was actually a record. Compared with other countries, South Africa comes next with 8.77, Australia 9.89, England 11.6, and the figures range up to Japan 21.50. The infant mortality rate has declined from 50.57 per 1000 births in 1920 to 40.16.
