Miss D. O’Neill has been appointed a pupil teacher at the E'l.lhani school, and commences her duties on the Ist April. Advice has been received by the New Zealand University of the death of Professor A. Dendy, who occupied the chair of biology at Christchurch from 1893 to 1903. A|t. r Sir Joseph Ward was yesterday interviewed by a deputation of Invercargill voters to request his acceptance of nomination for the Invercargill seat in the Liberal-Labour interests. Sir Joseph decided to accede to the request. Mr. Samuel Oldfield, an Auckland business man. has been selected as the Reform Party’s candidate for the Auckland West seat. The Rev. J. K. Archer has been selected as the Labour Party’s candidate to contest the Mayoralty in Christchurch. Messrs D. G. SnHivanoand H. T. Armstrong, M’s.P., and Mrs McCombs withdrew fyom the ballot. Mondav night’s buleltin concerning the condition of the Earl of Ypres (better known as Lord French') is less satisfactory, disquieting symtpoms having developed (states a London cable').
