Walter James Rayent, aged 40, a married man with four children, was killed in a street corner accident on Saturday evening. He was riding a bicycle around a corner and enedavoured to cut in on a motor-lorry going in the same direction. His bicycle skidded, throwing the rider beneath the lorry, and a wheel passed over his head, killing him instantly. GISBORNE, March 28. A large motor-lorry conveying a party of natives from Waiomatatini skiclced on the road near Kakariki this n.cming and capszied, 20 occupants being thrown out. l\one were injured, though several suffered minor abrasions. At an inquest on Reginald Sutcliffe, aged fifteen, who died from injuries received in a collision at Riccarton while cycling, the coroner returned a verdict of accidental death, but said that the other cyclist, Gilbert Thomas Beddis, was to blame for the accident. Horace Whittle, a well-known settler of Whittle’s Bend, Spring Creek, has been admitted to hospital, suffering from an incision in the wrist, supposed to be self inflicted. His condition is serious.
