JAP SUFFRAGE.

CRISIS PASSED

BILL AMENDED

SOME ALTERED PROVISIONS. BY CAELK—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. Received March 30, 10 a.m. TOK 10, March 29. The Suffrage Bill, which has been amended, will be submitted to both Houses. excludes from the franchise the Heads of peers’ families, as well as those who, owing to poverty, are dependent on public or private assistance for a means of livelihood. The clause on which most of the dispute centied deprives the peers of the right of election to the lower House, and also extends the residential qualification from six months to twelve months. While the electorate under the original text was estimated at fourteen million, the accepted amendments, it was believed, would reduce this by two or three millions.—Reuter.
