HEART DISEASES.
AN IMMIGRATION PUZZLE. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION--COPYRIGHT WASHINGTON, March 27. The immigration bureau is puzzled over the relatively large number of Irish immigrants Who, are rejected because of heart ailments. Officials ol the public health service who are charged with the physical examination of aliens desiring to enter the United States attribute the abnormally high heart disease rate to conditions existing in Ireland since 1914. The teeth conditions of these people are also bad. Immigrants from England, the officials state, are also being rejected because of heart trouble. It. is stated that in adult ages from 20 to 64 the mortality’ rate from diseases of the heart in’ the United States is uniformly higher among Irish than among English, Welsh or Americans.
